The CRT’s functions are to inspect, analyze, and certify compliance with the Official Mexican Tequila Standard (NOM-006-SCFI-2012) and the regulations applicable to the drink. This 2024 the organization will celebrate 30 years of working for the national drink par excellence of Mexico.
Zapopan, Jalisco on February 8, 2024.- The Tequila Regulatory Council, A.C. (TRC) received the 2023 National Agri-Food Award, within the framework of the Fortieth Ordinary General Assembly of the National Agricultural Council A.C. (CNA). This recognition is the highest award given by the CNA.
The award, given to the CRT in the National Company Category – Medium Value Network for providing goods and services to Mexican or foreign organizations, was received by President Miguel Ángel Domínguez Morales. He expressed gratitude for this distinction, highlighting that 2024 is a very important year for the tequila agroindustry, as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first Denomination of Origin in Mexico: Tequila, and the 30th Anniversary of the Tequila Regulatory Council, the Conformity Evaluating Body of the drink that focuses the eyes of the world on Mexico.
In addition, the president of the TRC, Miguel Ángel Domínguez Morales, highlighted that this award reflects the daily work carried out in collaboration with all sectors of the tequila agroindustry: agave growers, industrialists, bottlers, and marketers, to guarantee the traceability of tequila, the most regulated alcoholic beverage in the world.
The National Agri-Food Award is an annual award granted by the CNA. It is bestowed upon legally constituted organizations in the agri-food sector, trade union organizations operating in Mexico or abroad, and organizations that comprise their national or international value network. Mexico is one of the leading agri-food countries, and tequila is one of its most exported products. Last year alone, over 399 million liters of tequila were exported, with the United States accounting for more than 80% of the total.
The Tequila Regulatory Council A.C. was established in 1994. Its functions include inspecting, analyzing, and certifying compliance with NOM-006-SCFI-2012 (Official Mexican Tequila Standard) and applicable regulations, safeguarding the Denomination of Origin Tequila (DOT) both domestically and internationally, and generating timely and accurate information. The Council guarantees the authenticity of tequila through the permanent inspection of all stages, from agave plantations to production, maturation, packaging, and marketing.

The National Agri-Food Award has two categories, National and International, and four activities: Primary, Agro-industrial, Guild and Value Network. This award has established itself as an important evaluation instrument that recognizes the quality and increases the competitiveness of the participating companies by recognizing the efforts of organizations in the agri-food sector and seeks to promote them as an example for other companies to follow in order to replicate their experience.
