Zapopan, Jalisco, February 12, 2025.- With the aim of providing agave producers with information so that they can enter into formality and comply with their tax obligations, the Tequila Regulatory Council A.C. (TRC) and the University Center for Economic and Administrative Sciences (CUCEA) of the University of Guadalajara (UdeG) signed a collaboration agreement.
“The agreement we are signing is essentially aimed at promoting the development of the Agave Tequila Production Chain, through the installation of an accounting module from the University of Guadalajara operated by students from the last semesters of the CUCEA accounting faculty in this Tequila Regulatory Council,” said the second vice president of the TRC Board of Directors, Fernando Guerrero, representing the president of this organization, Miguel Ángel Domínguez Morales.
Last October 2024, the National Chamber of the Tequila Industry (CNIT) launched the call for the Agave Social Responsible (ARS) certification mark, aimed at traditional agave producers. One of the benefits is the direct link between agave and Tequila producers, that is, without intermediaries.
ARS is a brand granted by the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) to the Tequila Regulatory Council, which administers and grants its use as a recognition to the agave growers who have historically found in the cultivation and harvesting of agave for the production of Tequila, their way of subsistence.
One of the requirements that agave producers must present to be recognized with ARS is compliance with their tax obligations, being registered with the Tax Administration System of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit and having a positive opinion of compliance with tax obligations, which is why the signing of a collaboration agreement with CUCEA takes on greater relevance.
“For us as the University of Guadalajara, the strategic collaboration between the University and the Tequila Regulatory Council is a priority. Support for small producers before the SAT (Tax Administration System) is not only about regularizing them, but also about providing sensitive support to small producers,” said the Rector of CUCEA, Gustavo Padilla Montes.
“Our participation will consist of our students from the sixth semester onwards being able to practice all the knowledge acquired in the classroom …”what does this advice consist of? Informing how the procedures are before the Treasury and the SAT (Tax Administration System) and informing the agaveros that it is important to have fiscal culture since it helps our country, our state and our municipality” emphasized the director of the Accounting Division at CUCEA, Gerardo Flores Ortega.
The accounting advice module will be open from Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm at the central office of the CRT (Avenida Patria No. 723, Col. Jardines de Guadalupe in Zapopan).
Geospatial Viewer of the Agave Plantation Inventory
Another of the tools promoted by the Tequila Regulatory Council, to comply with one of its objectives, which is to provide timely, accurate and useful information to all sectors of this Productive Chain, is the Geospatial Viewer of the Agave Plantation Inventory, designed by the Information Technology area of the CRT, which offers a detailed, accessible and current view of the key information for decision-making in the sector, showing the geospatial delimitation of the territory of the Tequila Denomination of Origin, the location of factories, historical production, the inventory of agave plantations, agricultural areas, among other data.
“The display will show the projection of the estimated Tequila production in at least one cycle and with this determine the quantity of agave that the industry will require in that period” … “we see that it is of vital importance that the primary sector has access to this information to try to align the quantity of agaves that are established with what is consumed” said Alexis Álvarez, responsible for Agricultural Certification at the TRC.
The information available in this viewer is classified as general and detailed. Access to detailed information is for members of this Council, who must log in with a username and password provided by the Information Technology area of the TRC. This controlled access is necessary to ensure the security of the data and to keep a record of its use.
This information will also be available to all those who do not have access to a computer or cell phone, through screens that will be installed in each of the CRT offices located in Zapopan, Tequila, Tepatitlán, Atotonilco and Arandas in Jalisco and in Pénjamo, Guanajuato. There will also be screens in the Federal Delegation, Districts and CADERS of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development of the federal government as well as in the office of the Secretariat of Rural Development of the government of the state of Jalisco.
With the implementation of this viewer and the installation of an accounting advisory module, the Tequila Regulatory Council reaffirms its commitment to transparency and the development of the tequila agroindustry, promoting actions for the strategic planning of the Agave Tequila Productive Chain.
